Wanderlite Packable Daypacks: About Us
We've done a lot of exploring this past year. Each time I loaded up my old daypack, I marveled at its elegant simplicity and uncluttered functionality. Just exactly what I need, very well done.
It'll be a shame, I thought to myself, when it finally comes apart -- I've used this pack regularly since the mid seventies. Wow -- 30 years!
Anticipating the inevitable, I began looking for a replacement. The new packs tended to ride clumsily, sticking out quite a bit, rather than hugging my body the way my old favorite does. And, they all had padded straps and foam backs. This seemed a little crazy given that I nearly always carry less than 10 or 12 pounds, whether I'm hiking locally in the Rocky Mountains or exploring faraway vacation destinations. Worse yet, all this unnecessary padding made it virtually impossible to stow the pack compactly for travel. The newer packs really take up a lot of luggage space!
You see, I have gotten quite used to the convenience and freedom of traveling with a daypack, roaming about our vacation destinations with my hands free -- a carefree sort of wandering, if you will. Isn't it ironic how our culture's love of superfluous features - all the bells and whistles - often ends up depriving us of that simple,"just what I need" sort of experience?
I decided to recreate my old favorite anew, and to share it with you.
